days of thanks 11/4/2010

~Psalm 100~
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness:
come before his presence with singing.

I know we started a wood pile last month, but then it stopped growing… and I was getting worried again.  Tim didn’t seem worried because there is plenty of wood to be gathered ~ even a pile of wood he cut last year still sitting out in our pasture.  But it’s in the pasture where he couldn’t get to it last year after the first snow.  Sooo, that  wasn’t much consolation for me…
October 2010 170
Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Oh me of little faith.
Yesterday as we were almost headed out the door for church, Tim’s co-worker Don brought the dump truck load of wood he and Tim had cut this earlier week (I guess Tim had told me about a cottonwood tree, but…)

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

And this morning, tree-remover Robb came back with another load in his dump trailer.  (I haven’t seen him for 10 days so I thought he must have finished in town or forgotten our deal or something…)  And, when I went out to tell him thank you, he said he has a whole list of trees left in town that he will soon be cutting …and delivering to our wood pile.
God is so good to me ~ even me.

For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

days of thanks 11/3/2010

Today I am/was thankful for my warm house ~ When I checked the thermostat this afternoon, it said 72 F.  The clincher is that we haven’t turned on the heat… yet.  =)
Thank you, Lord, for this bunker of a house you’ve allowed us to have!

homeschooling moms, please read

And non-homeschooling moms can profit as well ~ You are your children's mom and thus vital to their real education!

Just want to quickly give you a link to this great post by a veteran homeschooling mom.  You don't have to use the same curriculum to learn from the principles she shares in this post.  Read, consider, and pray for God's wisdom with your own family.

Blessings!

FOR TODAY

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Outside my window...

sunshine, mostly bare trees, a blackened patch of ground where Tim burned off some of the dead weeds, happy heifers grazing the hayfield now that we’ve had a hard frost

I am thinking...

about this morning’s knock on the front door… Someone from the assessor’s office made an unannounced visit to see the inside of our new house  :o  (Did I even ask him for an ID?)

(I have no pride ~ or at least no hope it would look any better if he came back by appointment ~ so I let him in to take a look… And gave him a phone number to call before coming again.)

I am thankful for.…

the opportunity to vote according to my conscience today AND the fact that God is my Sovereign and Perfect Judge, no matter who becomes Iowa’s next governor, etc…

I am praying for...

... the Rettigs and the church in Prague

… my mom who is supposed to be resting to recover from pleurisy (so she can have that finger surgery soon)

Amber’s new little one (Matthew) ~ as well as her dad

…Diane and family

…Chloe and her family

…today’s elections

From the learning rooms...

  • long division, fractions, algebra, more algebra, simple interest
  • digestive system
  • Ancient Egypt
  • book review of Silas Marner
  • job interviews in speech class

From the kitchen...

Today ~ two batches of bread (one for my brother) and more Cookie Mama Cookies!

Tonight ~ leftover lasagna from Sunday  =)

Tomorrow ~ chicken pot pie?

More menu options:  taco soup, BBQ beef ribs, pizza, broccoli-cheese soup

I am creating...

plans for Christmas??  I am so not ready for the holidays this year.  Is it really November already?!  Tim has at least one “easy” solution for gifts, and I should just go with it!  (Sorry, because it sounds so material-focused, but the rest is easy once I have the gift-shopping under control.  And our first get-together is a combined Thanksgiving & Christmas event in less than 4 weeks!)

I am going...

to vote and to deliver Mike’s bread (as soon as it’s cool enough to bag) ~ and I should put some time in at the farm office today.  hmmm.

I am reading...

Proverbs.

I keep re-reading ch. 3 of Choosing Gratitude because I need to post about it…

I am hoping...

the Popper and I can return to church tomorrow night without coughing on too many people  :-\   Hmmm, and I’m supposed to be in the nursery.

I am hearing...

the refrigerator humming, pages turning as the three youngers are engrossed in various books on the couch  :-)

Around the house...

it’s quiet enough I could be napping!

One of my favorite things...

seeing our kids take an active interest in developing a biblical worldview and applying that to the various areas of life

Pondering these words...

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…  Ephesians 5:20

days of thanks ~ 11/2/2010

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Colossians 3:17

Today I give God thanks for the relationships He has blessed in our family, especially that between my husband and our daughters.  Tim is a great dad who desires to see his children walk in truth and know God’s blessing in their lives.  As our two oldest girls approach their upper teens and adulthood :o I am so thankful they still look to Tim for wisdom and guidance.  By God’s grace, we pray that they will continue to wait on God for His direction in the important decisions that seem just around the corner.  I am thankful for Tim’s leadership.

Choosing Gratitude #9

When we give in to whining, murmuring,
and complaining, we embark on a destructive
slide that can take us down to depths we never
could have imagined going.  Truly, ingratitude is our
first step away from God.

Because that, when they knew God,
they glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful
but became vain in their imaginations,
and their foolish heart was darkened.
Romans 1:21

days of thanks ~ 11/1/2010

I am remembering last year’s “days of thanks.”  I’m not sure when I “met” Jodi (Granola Mom 4 God), but I do remember that I “met” Conny after Jodi joined in with Conny’s “30 Days of Thanks” and I followed suit.
I am thankful to God for my blogger friend Conny  :-)  We have learned over the year of many things we have in common (along with a few differences).  We have shared prayer requests and rejoiced together as we saw God answer.  I am looking forward to someday meeting Conny in real life!  If not in the midwestern USA, then in the air on our way to heaven.
I am thankful for “30 Days of Thanks” that encourage me to consider my many blessings ~ and to give thanks to God for them.
