Outside my window...

~~another tractor~~ a tank truck (hauling water or fertilizer?) just went by again ~ I went to sleep last night hearing a tractor and planter in a nearby field. According to my toolbar, it’s not even 50F today (currently 47F or 8C), but it’s MAY and time to have the corn planted!

Surprise ~ I’m guessing this is my cousin Nick running the Soil Warrior to prepare the field just south of us…

The cattle ~~are~~ were grazing peacefully in the sunshine ~ I don’t see any of the young calves romping this morning, but the one-year-olds came quickly when they saw me outside…

I filled their water tank, but I think their bellering is a request for more corn. Sorta like children begging for candy.

And look who else I found outside enjoying the sunshine…

The Popper gained a new pet this weekend!

about our schedule for Basic Skills testing this week among other things

I am thankful …

the kids who have to take achievement tests this week are not sick!

for the good time the Popper and the Cattleman had with Tim yesterday at the Science Center for the Kids 4 Truth end-of-the-year celebration.

… Cinnamon ~ her Army hubby is in Afghanistan, her Marine son is in Japan

… our group going to Brazil – visas should be processed this week (ha ha – maybe this week they will actually make it all the way through – I am weary of jumping through their hoops!) – and lots of requirements to fulfill yet!

… my cousin’s little guy, 9mo Callan ~ trying to figure out his health issues and preparing to move across the country in a few months

… my friend J. who had a successful ‘simple’ surgery last Wednesday ~ recovery has been a bit more than she imagined, but all will be well eventually ~ just wishing she had more than a half-day left of sick leave.

Tim started in the field today, so I get a bit lazy… Thankfully we have leftovers for those who have appetites today. And I will need to get moving on my list for the open house!

We put this photo display together yesterday for last night’s graduation fellowship at church. Unfortunately, Kate was sick with the flu and missed the party! I was thankful for our ‘adopted’ daughter Lora’s help :-)

While I’m obviously not giving up my beef, here’s a good quote from a review at Amazon:

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." By which Pollan means: Eat natural food, the kind your grandmother served (and not because she was so wise, but because the food industry had not yet learned that the big money was in processing, not harvesting). Next weekend is another crazy one – local city-wide garage sales (What do I/we possibly need?); Kate will be baking a cake for her Aunt Cathy; the Brazil travelers have a training session Saturday night. Sunday is Mother’s Day…

Outside my window...

the Cattleman is planting his potatoes before it starts raining

I am thinking...

What a mess can be made in a moment. You would have to see a video to believe it perhaps, but yesterday I demonstrated what a Messy Marvin I can be. (Calamity Jane seems more appropriate, but I just looked her up on wikipedia – and I haven’t been fighting Injuns.) Since I stayed home from church with the sick Cowgirl, I was able to start lunch before the others came home. We were having gyros, so I needed to fry the meat. I thought I should empty the grease catcher between batches. It’s not a very easy thing to handle, let alone pour the hot grease into an empty can. So I dropped it. Knocking the can of grease over and onto the floor. So I jumped back to keep from getting it on me. Good idea except that I put my left hand on the counter at the same time to support myself (Why? I would need instant replay to answer that. I guess I was trying to remove only my lower half from the range of the oil –?) My brain was busy worrying about the oil flying to the floor, so it didn’t register very quickly the fact or why my left hand was feeling pain. I was touching the edge of the very hot griddle with the back of my hand. I promise no pictures ~ it’s not pretty. Good thing I have no aspirations of ever being a hand model. ;-)

Any good ideas for removing the oil slick from my plywood subfloor? I tried mopping yesterday, but I will probably need to mop daily for a while…

I must add an aloe vera plant to my shopping list.

I am thankful …

for an almost quiet Easter Sunday at home.

Once I “got into” this book… and he started detailing the events in the actual flood, it was so hard to put down! I am in the final chapters. Wow. What a story.

celebrate the resurrection!

Mark 16

And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

For further thought, I have pasted in the third part of Handel’s Messiah ~ such glorious truth and intended for this season as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and look forward to his any-moment return!

Hallelujah: for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever. King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Hallelujah!
