Praying... for the Couriers for Christ group traveling to Moldova today, for a family in midst of difficult days, for our college kids to stay healthy and grow in wisdom, for my parents who are traveling, for rain, for wisdom, for the mind of Christ…

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort

school daze or travel haze…

 

No pictures right now.  And definitely nothing profound to say.

Tim & I drove Daniel out to North Carolina for his first year of college.  His classes began a week ago.  He seems to be loving it for the most part.  Especially the days he gets to the dining hall in time for breakfast or has time to sit down there for lunch instead of grabbing a carry-out to eat after 2pm.  [His Mondays and Fridays begin with class at 7am and he goes solid for 7 hours with five classes, chapel, and chorale practice… Crazy?!  Wednesdays are about the same except he doesn’t have chorale.]

We made the trip out there in two days.  The trip home in one day.  :o  Something like 16 hours of driving.  1200 miles?  30 minutes or less with Jodi in Indianapolis.  Crazy.

Today we are home again from taking Kate & Abby up to Wisconsin to their college just yesterday.  They begin their first 2-week block of classes after Labor Day.

It was SO lovely and green at Tim’s mom’s house.  And at least 10 degrees cooler.  {sigh}   Heat advisory continues here until tomorrow night…

But I am thankful to be home again.  Time for a quick nap before I make supper… for five of us.  The new normal with half of our kids in college.  Crazy.

Afterthought as I see the date posted:  It’s the 21st anniversary of Tim & my engagement!  Think he’ll remember??

Boston

 

Text is from Mr. Edmondson’s recent prayer letter… photos are from my teens who were blessed to be part of the adventure in Boston!

This summer two youth ministry teams served with us in Boston: Faith Baptist Church youth group from Cambridge, Iowa, and First Baptist Church from Niles, Ohio. Over the course of two weeks, 37 adults and teenagers descended upon our home. Although it was an extremely busy and exhausting time for all, I think it is safe to say that we all profited from it.
The two teams did many ministry home maintenance projects like cleaning the sump pump pit, cleaning and reorganizing the overflowing basement, weeding and rerocking the sidewalk and porch area, refinishing the deck, building a sidewalk and planter, and deep cleaning the kitchen among many other projects. The teams also deep cleaned the community building where we have our Sunday meetings, and picked up trash throughout the neighborhood.
After meeting with the mayor and his staff, we cleaned and groomed an area close to the main government buildings in our community of Malden. We also met with neighbors and shop owners in our city. By serving our community in this way, we hope to establish our credentials as ambassadors for Christ. Both groups went a long way in helping us do this.
We also tried to minister to each individual in each group by building lasting relationships with them. Together we traveled up Malden Mountain to view our city and pray for her needs. We had several on-line meetings with disciples of the International Baptist Fellowship. This gave our group an opportunity to learn about city ministry from those impacted by city ministry. On July fourth we spent the day on the Charles River in preparation for watching the Boston fireworks. While doing so, we interacted with many international friends. It was wonderful to observe the ministry teams engage international visitors.In addition to these activities, we gave both teams extensive tours of Boston. My hope is to replace fear of the city with a love and burden for the city.
This is only part of what was done and accomplished in Boston by ministering with the two ministry teams. Many hours of work was accomplished on the ministry house, relationships with city officials and neighborhood friends and shop owners were deepened, international friends were introduced to Christ-loving teens, the teams were challenged with the need for city workers. Ministry happened on the local, regional, continental, and international levels. It was a good two weeks.

They walked or road the subway everywhere!  On Friday they followed the Freedom Trail ~ Bunker Hill Monument, North Church, USS Constitution, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s home, statues of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and Ben Franklin…

And the boys still had energy left for pillow fights after spending the evening out in a park.

fyi, remember this is what Daniel’s pillow case looked like when he came home… before I threw it away.

Saturday they joined a friend of the Edmondsons for a hike in Malden Fells.

 

And worked around the house as Mr. E. mentioned – Daniel worked with re-sanding the tile sidewalk.  Abby helped with staining the deck {there’s a funny story with that one!}  And the sump pump crew of course have their own stories of victory in the depths…

                     

 

Tuesday ~ They saw a Jewish Holocaust memorial and the site of store where D.L. Moody trusted in Jesus Christ

      

They ate pizza for lunch from Regina’s – the oldest pizzaria in Boston {these young boys look just a little tired?}

That evening they played Ultimate Frisbee in a park, and then bought large quantities of water  :-)

 

Thursday ~ “Camping out” on the Charles River on the Fourth ~ Abby reported it was about 90F, so they were thankful for the shade.

 

   

And the fireworks?  “Wow. 25 minutes… But….. Wowowowowowowowowow!” was Daniel’s meaningful description.  :-)

Friday they were back on the road and headed west.  They opted for a ‘quick’ detour to see Niagra Falls.

Hearing... air conditioner {fan} and dehumidifier

Pondering...   whether or not blogging about it will help me to get it all done  ;-)

Praying... for Kate & group in the Philippines

Thankful... that God knows… and He is able!

Creating...  a stockpile of dorm snacks as well as a lengthy vitamin order :-)

Going...  to a family BBQ tonight in honor of two of my nephews who are exiting/entering military service

Reading...  the Bible – Romans; By Searching by Isobel Kuhn 

Looking forward to...  visiting  North Carolina again – and hopefully seeing Jodi in Indy too!

In the kitchen...  leftovers of last night’s chicken salad and corn on the cob; probably pizza tomorrow; beef roast and baked potatoes for Sunday dinner; grilled bacon cheese burgers; beef ribs {trying to squeeze in a few more of Daniel’s favorites}

Around the house... it’s still very quiet – the Cowgirl and the Popper are out with the Jerseys, and the berry pickers are at work

The Mother Load... Call barber for the Cattleman, cut Daniel’s hair, call bank, laundry, vacuum main rooms, clean bathroom, call LifeSource with vitamin order, marinate turkey tenderloins, frost zuc bars for tonight, pay bills, check this week’s school work, put or throw away the rest of last year’s school papers?!
