happy homemaker monday 1/23/2012

Hoping to link up with Sandra again ~ I decided not to wait for a new computer, but we'll see if my patience with this laptop/blogger lasts long enough to complete this...

{Seriously, Jodi, is there a way to tell Blogger
to NOT autosave every two seconds?!}

The weather:::
Normal.  We've survived the recent arctic blast into winter.  The ground is close enough to 100% white today.  Temps this week are forecast for highs in the 30s and lows in teens/twenties.  Like I said, normal.  And I think I like it  :D
(Yeah, I didn't have to drive in the drizzle and ice yesterday, just ride along and be thankful for safety and my good man at the wheel.)

On my reading pile:::
Bible ~ this year we are reading a chapter in Proverbs each day plus spending a month each in several NT books, starting with Mark.

Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis

On my TV:::
Earlier today it was Mr. McBride (ABeka dvd) ~ this semester they're studying the gospels.  He's a great teacher.  So thankful.

On the menu for this week:::
Monday - cheddar chicken
Tuesday - BBQ ribs
Wednesday - tacos
Thursday - chicken pot pie
Friday - pizza
Saturday - panini (?)
Sunday - crockpot lasagna (another maybe?  We're having dinner at church, so I may come up with something else?)

And the discussion after breakfast was about which girl was going to cook which night of the week.  I am prepared to be spoiled.  ;-)  {And for G&G H's information:  Mon-K; Tues-E; Fri-A; Sat-M}  Maybe the boys should take Thursday?  or would two male cooks {boybarians} turn it into a food fight?

On my to do list:::
  • write a menu plan for February!
  • mix up more cookies for the Sportsmen's Adventure
  • cook the last three garden squash
  • watch a seminar on essential oils... while I iron  :p
  • catch up on school papers
  • finish a couple flannel projects (see next item)

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
a baby blanket for a big Little guy coming soon  ;-)
and maybe a couple impulse extras to go with it

Looking around the house:::
it's a really good time to take pictures ~ installation of the NEW LAMINATE flooring is progressing nicely and looking wonderful!  {and excuse me while I gush, but it's even a joy to clean it!}  Tim's back and knees would disagree with the "nicely" part.  He took a break and went to work today.  ;-)

From the camera:::
...still not available...  :-\

But here's something fun from google images...  just add a four-wheeler for the dad (&kids) to drive  ;-)

Something fun to share:::

Maybe you'd like to watch this while you do your ironing too?
"Ancient Remedies, Modern Cures"

Bonus Thought:::
Mom & Dad, you'll have to come for a piano concert soon ~ The piano is now IN the living room instead of in the corner.  So you could sit on the couch and watch the pianist(s).  I'm sure that and the promise of snow will have you eager to leave Arizona, right?  :D
And while I'm directing my thoughts to you, Did you hear that SW Airlines is coming to the DsM airport?

Prayer list:::
relationships, teaching (modeling) responsibility, ...
{Sometimes "An example is better than an exhortation"}

Bible verse, Devotional:::

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
Proverbs 22:20-21

After lunch post script:::
Am I awful to be glad that Tim has had to use this laptop for his i-net time?  Um, let's just say that there's a new computer at Best Buy awaiting my pickup later today!  :D  It's just STUFF, but isn't life more fun when your stuff actually works?!  I'm going to pick up a wireless mouse for him just to celebrate and share the love  ~♥~

wishing I could show you pictures...

... of this messy house!  ha.

No, really.  Tim has been prepping the abused (sub)floor ~ and today he started laying the laminate flooring!!!!

I think he's trying to get enough done to be able to return the stove and fridge to their spots... Going around the island will seem easy after those, right?

And on another note, we might be shopping for a new computer.  Mr Fix-It said we still had problems even after he replaced the hard drive.
Now we'll see if this old thing I'm using can muster the umph to communicate with blogger to publish this profound post.

Oh, and we got SNOW (more than an inch).  And frigid temps.

That's all. G'night.

farmhouse bbq biscuits

...especially for EMichelle... : )

The recipe was published as Farmhouse Barbecue Muffins in Taste of Home in April 1994!  Not sure when I first tried them, and we haven't had them for a long time, but they made their way onto last week's menu -- and then were skipped in favor of leftovers, I believe.

I have looked at the Taste of Home website, but can't find the easy link to their recipe.  So,
Um, yeah, when you spell it barbeque, you won't find it either.  But Farmhouse Barbecue Muffins are right here.    ahem.  I guess that's why I call them Farmhouse BBQ Biscuits.

I'll quickly summarize it for you here... because it's just that complicated  ;-)
Farmhouse BBQ Biscuits
  • Make your favorite version of bbq sauced sloppy joe ground beef.
  • Mix up a batch of buttermilk biscuits (the dough -- or buy a can of Pillsbury at the store, but I am positive they are better with homemade!)
  • Place a smallish ball of dough in each cup of a muffin tin and press up the sides.
  • Fill each dough cup with cooked meat and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake at 375F for about 20 min.
  • Enjoy them while they're hot!

Yum.  I will be putting these on February's menu... if I don't decide to make some right now...

(sorry - still no pics of anything!  except of course at taste of home...)
